Government by Executive Order rather than Congressional law-making does not work. Just as President Trump has used Executive Orders to reverse President Obama's Executive Orders, the next President will reverse President Trump's Executive Orders creating uncertainty in every area of American life. Congress needs to step up and do it's job.
The Trump Administration created a "Dreamer crisis" and then gave Congress six months to "fix" the problem. That's not constructive. The Trump Administration must work with Congress to fashion a legislative process which builds the trust of the American people and sets the stage for future legislation to modernize our antiquated immigration system.
The 2016 Election the depth of the divisions in this country. Those divisions are both human and institutional. Reform, renovation and rebirth are urgently needed. But before we turn our attention to the future – let's take a moment to summarize what went right and what went wrong on Election Day, November 8.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects National Debt will rise to at least 110 percent of GDP by 2036. Before the United States reaches the 100 percent Debt to GDP threshold, no investor, foreign or domestic, will be willing or able to purchase our debt at any interest rate. The combination of political and social instability will swallow everything – including your savings. And yet, unlike Barack Obama, neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump have focused on the rising ratio of Debt to GDP or the risk it presents. No more credit card shopping for Congress and the American people. We can't pay the bill!
Presidents and brain surgeons have one thing in common – experience matters. But there's a vast difference in the experience required to be the singular Chief Executive Officer – the President, the leader of all the people and a surgeon. Would any hospital allow a surgery intern to perform brain surgery or allow a surgical resident to operate without the active and immediate supervision of a "board certified" surgeon? Of course they won't. It's no different with President.
It is farcical to believe that it is possible to secure any of the nation's borders as long as the rewards of illegal entry – the "anchor baby" at the end of the rainbow -- outweigh the risks posed by the US Border Patrol, TSA, or Customs and Enforcement.
The President's unwillingness to work with Congress to fix laws he believes need fixing violates his constitutional oath to "faithfully execute" the laws of the land. Unchallenged, the President would set a precedent that reduces Congress to an investigative body.
some climate scientists have predicted that warmer temperatures caused by atmospheric pollution (climate change) may result in a decrease of as much as 40 percent in the annual snow pack over the next 40 years. If these scientists are correct, the gap between California’s fresh water supply and water demand could be more than 50 percent by mid-century.
There is a troubling juxtaposition between the President pictured in the Situation Room during the Bin Laden raid and the absence of any evidence the President and his health care policy and technology team ever conducted an ACA milestone review. In the former, the President had no control over the roll-out and the latter he had absolute control of the roll-out
As a result - no vision, no goals, no plan = no budget. That is why we have seen Continuing Resolution after Continuing Resolution to “fund the government” without asking the question are we funding the right priorities, at the right level with the right resources? Unless we arrive at an adequate answer to that question, it is a sure prescription for national bankruptcy!
